Prerequisites

Postgraduate studies will start with an intensive review of critical concepts, legal principles, statutory and regulatory provisions, and commercial uses of computing technologies. For individuals with either a Juris Doctor or Masters of Business Administration, several of the courses will be fulfilled by prior study, practice, or management experience. Two of these will be foundation courses for most registrants: Survey of Commercial Arrangements (CL 403) and American Intellectual Property Interests (CL 407).

401  Property Concepts in Contemporary Intellectual Property Law
Legal concepts underlying an intangible property interest, including jurisprudence for statutory and common law protections of these interests in the context of historical formation and contemporary application in commercial settings. (2 credit)
402     Survey of Intellectual Property Law
Comprehensive review of principles and practices associated with patent, trademark, copyright, semiconductor chip, and other legally recognized protections for intellectual property in the United States. (2 credits)
403  Survey of Commercial Arrangements
Review of commercial agreements and statutory arrangements, including Uniform Commercial Code and pending amendments, electronic trading partner agreements, International Sales Convention, Model Law on Electronic Commerce, standard-setting activities, software agreements, licensing agreements, and technology transfer. (3 credits)
404 Computer Law I: Legal Issues Involving Computers and Computer Applications
Survey of legal issues involving the use of computers and information technologies (2 credits)
405  Computer Law II: Intellectual Property Law Issues Involving Computer Technologies
(2 credits)
406 Technological Developments Affecting Computing Technologies
Multidisciplinary review of technological developments affecting computing technologies, security, communication, market structure, and intellectual property interests. (3 credits)
407 American Intellectual Property Interests
Review of American industries' intellectual property interests and their significance to economic and technological development, foreign trade, balance of trade, fair competition, tax base, and related national interests in the world economy. (2 credits)

These core courses emphasize critical legal, technological and economic issues involving computing technologies at various levels of implementation and differing utilizations of the technologies. They form the base for more advanced courses in specialized fields, including the concentration areas of operations and transactions.
